I am in, what do I need to know?

Requirements for the picture itself

Here are our requirements:

• Original Size: 2000px x 2000px (6.5in x 6.5in) minimum.
• Original Resolution: 300ppi.
• Final Size: 375px high by between 230px and 335px wide.
• Final Resolution: 72dpi.
• File Format: Either psd, jpg or png.
• Background: The picture has to have a black background.
• Cropped: Tightly… like examples.
• Models: Have to be active members of FetLife.
• Nudity: No nudity sorry. There is enough inside FetLife. :-p
• Model Release: Signed model release from every model & 18+.

What makes a good front page picture

From our experience, this is what we have learnt makes for a good front page picture:

• Using Props: Flogger, St. Andrews Cross, cage, etc.
• Smilling Happy People: Smilling happy people are inviting people.
• Color: People are attracted to pictures that have color in them.
• Highlight our Diversity: Diversity in age, size, orientation and kinks.
• Be Creative & Different: To get peoples attention.

But we are open to trying new things, so don't hesitate to experiment.

For Extra Credit: We are also looking for holiday themed pics to celebrate the holidays… kinky style. Kinky Christmas, Easter, Hanukah, Ramadan… I am sure your creative juices are simmering right about now.

Where will the picture be used

The picture will be used on our front page but may also be used in our marketing material, which includes, but is not limited to, our business cards, postcards and pamphlets.

When submitting your picture make sure to include both the high resolution version and the version ready for web.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just send you a link to my pics and you choose one?

If you have taken a picture that achieves all of our goals already then sweet... please send us the picture... not a link. :-p

In most cases, this will not be the case though. The front page picture needs to showcase not only your talents but the diversity and beauty of the community.

Take the first example picture as an example. It includes active and diverse FetLife members. Young and old, skinny and fat (me), leather, latex, industrial, prep, etc.

So how should you go about taking the picture?

To be honest, when EmJ and I do photo shoots for FetLife's front page we make an event out of them.

We take a week or two to come up with concepts we want to try. We find a local space. We set a date and then we harass memebers on FetLife to be apart of the picture. We usually invite about 8-12 people to come to the photo shoot.

In a photoshoot we can take anywere between 300-700 pictures and at the end of it only one or two of them might be good enough in our opinion for FetLife's front page.

Got any ideas for me?

With respect to place? You can do the picture at a local dungeon, studio, event or even national event... all good places.

With respect to props? I tend to like pictures with a prop in them. Not to many though because you don't want them to over power the picture. Maybe a whip, cross, throne, flogger, bench, swing, user your imagination etc.

With respect to the concept? Start with something simple like a group shot and then slowly get a little crazier. A person or two hanging off someone suspended. Everyone tied together. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil bondage style. Play with it. Have fun with it.

With respect to kinksters? Bring together a diverse group of people and play around. Young, old, skinny, chubby, short, tall, white, asian, black, leather, latex, prep, industrial, geek, straigh, bi, gay... I think you get what I mean by diversity right.
