Hate Symbols
Publicly sharing a hate symbol on FetLife, either used to promote actual hate or in a fantasy context, is not allowed.
What is considered a hate symbol?
We use multiple sources to determine if a symbol is hateful or not. We evaluate symbols that have multiple meanings on a case-by-case basis.
What is in violation of this policy?
Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Hate symbol to promote hate
- Hate symbol in context of consensual roleplay
What is not in violation of this policy?
Examples include:
- Religious symbols (e.g. Hindu swastika)
- Hate symbol used in an anti-hate context
- Political meme (e.g. comparing a political party to Nazis)
How do I report a potential violation of this guideline?
Report a potential violation as follows:
- Visit the page with the potentially offensive material
- Select "...", “More”, or “Options”, then select “Report”
- Select "Content Not Permitted" or “Other Reason”
- Select "Next"
- Add any additional information
- Select "Report"

Who can report a potential violation of this guideline?
Anyone who comes across content they believe might fall under this guideline.
What happens if someone violates this guideline?
If a hate symbol is found within the context of hate speech, the content is deleted and person is given a timeout. If the person continues to violate the guideline, they risk losing their account.
If a hate symbol is found within the context of consensual roleplay, the content is locked private.
