Not too long ago, if someone had told us we'd be working full-time on gigs that serve the BDSM and sex-positive communities, we probably wouldn't have believed them.
We started our journey over 20 years ago with the intention of making meaningful connections within the community. Over time, our ways of providing service professionally came together. Our gigs include clothing optional yoga, presentations, bookkeeping, and business advice for adult-oriented companies, retreats, a sex temple, and BDSM coaching.
The unsettled economic climate has more people interested in starting side hustles to make ends meet or taking on gig work to bridge income gaps. That inspired us to create a program to help other kinksters start kink-oriented businesses to earn income while doing something they enjoy.
In this presentation, we'll discuss a wide variety of kinky gigs and side hustles that can be done working alone with limited access to capital. They involve selling products, creating content, performing services, organizing events, or sharing specialized knowledge.
We'll also spend time discussing the parts people don't always talk about. Challenges such as inconsistent income, difficult customers, and the realities of running a business affect all entrepreneurs. We also address issues that are unique to businesses serving the kink community, including privacy and public exposure concerns, e-commerce platform restrictions, and social media censorship.
Issues can be addressed, but sometimes that means eliminating choices that carry risks with consequences you can’t take any chances with, no matter how slight. We want to help people think realistically about opportunities that may fit their interests, skills, resources, and risk tolerance.
