Wellington | 48-Hour Film Challenge | Fri 31 July – Sun 2 August 2026
We’re back for round two.
Last year we created a short film exploring trust, perception, and kink narratives through a grounded, story-first lens. This year we’re returning to the 48Hours Film Challenge with a sharper focus on collaboration, execution, and real-time creative problem solving.
This is a Wellington-based, 48-hour filmmaking sprint where a team comes together at 7pm Friday, receives a surprise genre and mandatory elements, and has exactly 48 hours to write, shoot, edit, and deliver a finished short film.
No pre-written script. No polished runway. Just a brief, a team, and the chaos of making something real under pressure.
🎯 What this project is
This is a collaborative erotic-adjacent storytelling project for a vanilla/general audience.
We are not making explicit content.
We are exploring:
- intimacy
- trust
- power dynamics (handled responsibly and symbolically)
- relationships
- human connection through a cinematic lens
Everything is framed for story, character, and emotional truth, not explicit depiction.
⚙️ How it works
Kickoff: 7pm Friday 31 July
Brief released (genre + required elements)
48 hours to produce a complete short film
Submission: Sunday 2 August (7pm deadline)
It is fast, unpredictable, and highly collaborative.
Expect:
- rapid decision-making
- role fluidity (everyone helps where needed)
- late nights / early starts
- problem-solving on the fly
- constant adaptation
🧠Who this is for
We’re building a Wellington-based core team of people who thrive in controlled chaos.
Looking for collaborators who are:
Comfortable in fast-paced production environments
Happy to wear multiple hats (camera, acting, set support, logistics, etc.)
Clear communicators under pressure
Respectful of consent, boundaries, and collaborative process
More focused on getting it made than controlling every detail
Cool with a volunteer, passion-project environment
🎠Possible roles (fluid on the day)
- Performers / actors
- Camera / lighting support
- Production assistants
- Art direction / styling (adaptable)
- On-set logistics / continuity
- General creative problem solvers
Everyone contributes beyond a single label.
🛑 Important notes
This is unpaid / volunteer (48Hours standard format)
Wellington-based crew only (no travel support available, also once the venue is confirmed will we know if you can sleep on set)
All team members will be vetted, before confirmation, just like a kink party.
We prioritise trust, safety, and clear communication on set
All participants must be comfortable working within a professional film set environment
