RopuNawa - Twisted Hashira

Description
In this workshop,
Rather than simply using the Hashira as an anchor point for familiar ties, we explore how it can become part of the structure itself. What shapes emerge when a body is influenced not only by rope, but also by the architecture around it? And how can this lead to ties that don’t need to follow a predefined system?
The focus is less on reproducing specific shapes and more on understanding why a structure works and how to adapt it to the body, the situation and the surroundings.
We will work with unusual positions, full 360° ties around the Hashira and static Semenawa ties.
Together, we will explore:
- how to incorporate a full 360° tie around the Hashira into a session
- how to develop unusual and creative positions rather than relying solely on predefined shapes
- what to keep in mind to stay safe and (mostly) sensible throughout
The workshop offers space to experiment and take ideas further. The focus is on understanding what happens between rope, body and Hashira, and discovering what that makes possible in your own tying practice, rather than producing the most spectacular results.
PREREQUISITES
This is not a beginner workshop. It is intended for people who are already confident in their rope practice. Participants tying are expected to have a solid technical understanding, be able to tie standard ties efficiently and reliably, and have suspension experience.
Previous experience with the Hashira is not required.
The person tying:
- has suspension experience and good upline management skills
- can tie single and double column ties confidently and fluently
- needs a stable, suspension-ready upper-body harness (such as a TK or Tenshi) that works well for the person they are attending with
The person being tied:
- has experience with suspension and physically demanding ties
- knows their physical and emotional limits and can communicate them
- can communicate changes, concerns and limits early, including while in rope
- has experience managing breathing restrictions while in rope
- is informed about and aware of the risks, particularly nerve compression and potential nerve damage
Both people should be comfortable exploring challenging and experimental ties together and have experience responding jointly to changes and unexpected situations.
