We are excited to announce that all member-related profile pages now use nicknames instead of numerical IDs in URLs.

So for example:

fetlife.com/users/1

Will now be:

fetlife.com/johnbaku

This change applies to all user-related pages, including but not limited to profiles, pictures, writings, and videos.

Existing links with numerical user IDs will still work and will automatically redirect to the correct page. If you update your nickname, links using your previous nickname will continue redirecting for at least 60 days. After that, the nickname becomes available for another member to claim.

We’ve made this change to better protect members by making it much harder for anyone to view all new FetLifers by just looking through all the new numerical IDs.

This change is being rolled out slowly. So if you do not yet see the change, please be patient.
