New Event Privacy Option

We are giving event organizers a new option to make it easier to share links to their events with potential attendees. Starting today, event organizers will have the option to set their event to “Public”, which will mean that people with the link will be able to see basic info about an event while they are not logged into FetLife.

Member privacy always comes first though, so if someone opens a link to a public event while logged out of FetLife, they will see a slimmed-down version of the event page. The event page does not reveal any information about attendees, organizers, or the exact location of the event.

What a public event page shows

A public event page focuses on basic info about the event, without revealing any information about people attending, organizing the event, or the event's exact location.

Without being logged in, people will only be able to see an event’s:

  • Title
  • Tagline
  • Type of event
  • Date and time
  • City, state, and country
  • Description
  • Image (unless event image is NSFW)
  • Dress code
  • Price

What a public page will never show

Public event pages does not include, and will never include:

  • Attendees, avatars, or member nicknames
  • Event discussions
  • Organizer identity
  • Exact address or venue name

How to make a public event

When you create or edit an event, you can choose whether the event is visible to:

  • Public
  • FetLifers
  • Private

If you keep your event set to FetLifers or Private, nothing changes. If you choose Public, basic information about the event will be accessible to anyone with the link, without exposing attendee information, organizer details, or the exact location/venue of the event.

We will keep improving how this works based on your feedback and what we learn. And we will always prioritize members’ privacy.
