How do I react or reply to a message?

In any conversation, press and hold a message (or right-click it on a computer). This opens a row of emoji reactions and a menu of actions for that message.

Reacting with an emoji

  1. Press and hold the message (or right-click it on a computer)
  2. Select an emoji from the row

To use a different emoji, select the smiley at the end of the row ("React with any emoji") and enter the emoji you want.

You can leave one reaction per message. Picking a different emoji replaces your reaction. To remove your reaction, press and hold the message again and select the same emoji.

Reactions show below the message. Select them to see who reacted.

Replying to a specific message

  1. Press and hold the message (or right-click it on a computer)
  2. Select "Reply"
  3. Write your response and send it

Your reply shows a small quote of the message you're answering. Select the quote to jump to the original message. To stop replying before you send, select "Cancel Reply" (the "x" above the message box).

You can reply to text messages, pictures, videos, GIFs, and voice messages.

Other things you can do

From the same menu, you can also copy a message, blur a picture or video again after you've unblurred it, and edit or delete messages you sent. See How do I delete or archive a Message?

You can't react, reply, or edit in a conversation you can no longer respond to.
