How Kinky & Popular Works

Kinky & Popular (K&P) highlights pictures, videos, and writings from the last 24 hours that are currently getting a lot of love from the community. For many members it’s a fun spotlight on what’s resonating right now. Like any popularity-based feed, though, some people love it while others prefer to avoid it.

Here’s exactly how it works.

How is content ranked on K&P?

Every piece of content on K&P gets a score. That score is based on 2 things:

• How many loves it has
• How long ago it was posted

The formula is:

score = loves × (1 − decay)

Decay starts at 0 and increases over 24 hours. By the 24-hour mark, the score has fully decayed.

The decay is not linear. It is slower at first and speeds up over time. For example, content keeps about 99.8% of its score after 1 hour, 75% after 12 hours, and 0% after 24 hours.

Currently, only regular loves count toward K&P scores. SuperLoves are not included in the calculation.

Can a post get a ranking penalty?

Some posts receive ranking penalties that lower their score. These are meant to encourage variety and higher-quality posts:

Same author penalty

If a person has multiple posts of the same type appear (e.g. post multiple pictures) on K&P at the same time, each additional piece gets a reduced score:

• 1st post: 100% of score
• 2nd post: 50% of score
• 3rd post: 25% of score
• 4th post: 12.5% of score

This helps prevent any one member from flooding K&P at any one time.

Short writing penalty

Writings under 50 words receive 20% of their calculated score.

Short video penalty

Like writings, very short videos receive a penalty. As the length of a video increases, the penalty decreases.

What type of posts are NOT eligible to trend on K&P?

Across all content types:

• Clickbait

For writings only:

• Personal ads
• Thirst traps
• Sexual broadcasts (e.g. “I’m horny” announcements)
• Engagement bait (e.g. “I’ll never be satisfied”)

Other exclusions:

• Posts more than 24 hours old
• Posts set to “Friends Only”
• Posts from members who have turned trending off for that content type in their privacy settings

How often is K&P updated?

K&P is recalculated every 5 minutes.
