How do I send a video in a conversation?
You can send short videos in one-on-one and group conversations.
- Open a conversation in your Inbox
- Select the camera button on the left side of the message box. It shows while the message box is empty.
- Choose the video you want to send. It sends right away.
A video can be up to 1 minute long, and you can send one video at a time. If a video can't be sent, for example because it's too long, too large, or in a format we can't use, you'll see a message telling you why.
Sending can take a moment, especially for longer videos. Until it's done, the video shows "sending…" in the conversation. If it fails, you'll see "upload failed." Select "retry" to try again.
If the camera button is grayed out, the other member's privacy settings don't allow pictures or videos from you.
Who can send and watch videos?
Videos work in a conversation as long as at least one person in it is a Supporter. Then everyone in the conversation can send and watch videos, including members who aren't Supporters. So if you're a Supporter and send a video to someone who isn't, they can still watch it.
If no one in the conversation is a Supporter:
- The camera button only lets you send pictures.
- Videos already in the conversation are locked. When you try to play one, you'll see "Want to watch this video?" Select "Support FetLife & Unlock Videos" to become a Supporter and unlock videos for everyone in the conversation.
- You can still watch videos you sent yourself.
Videos lock again when no Supporter is left in the conversation, for example when the Supporter leaves it or their support ends.
Watching a video
Videos appear blurred until you select them. Select a video once to reveal it, then select it again to play it. The length of the video shows in its corner.
To blur a video again, press and hold it (or right-click it on a computer) and select "Blur Video."
If a video shows "Unsupported format," your browser can't play it. Try opening the conversation in another browser or on another device.
