Cleave Gag

A cleave gag is a type of gag used in BDSM and bondage play where a piece of cloth, band, or strap is pulled tightly between the lips, forcing them apart and pressing into the mouth.

Unlike a ball gag, which fills the mouth, a cleave gag doesn’t block speech completely—it muffles it. The fabric or strap “cleaves” (splits) the mouth, often pulling the cheeks slightly inward. A strip of cloth, scarf, or bandana may be used here, as well as leather or fabric straps made specifically for bondage.

Why People Are Into It

A cleave gag creates a visual of forced silence and mild helplessness without full restraint of breathing. It’s popular for its aesthetic look, psychological effect, and relative comfort compared to mouth-filling gags. Cleave gags are also easy to use and don't require a dedicated sex toy.

Safety and Consent

Even though cleave gags don't block the airway, gags can still make communication and breathing harder. Always agree on a nonverbal safe signal and avoid leaving a gagged person unattended.
