Philia/Fetish

Philia, or paraphilia refers to any excessive attraction, desire, or fetish toward an object, individual, place, scenario, or behavior along with the fantasies involving them.

Most paraphilic terms carry a Greek suffix of "-philia" ("love" or "loving") or "-lagnia" ("lust" or "intercourse"). The opposite for these is the suffix "-phobia".

Note that the paraphilia is a clinical term that has negative connotations for some. In earlier editions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), paraphilia's were broadly classified as sexual deviations, pathologizing consensual BDSM practices. The American Psychiatric Association revised its stance in the DSM-5, differentiating between paraphilias and paraphilic disorders. This change aimed to de-pathologize consensual sexual behaviors that do not cause distress or harm.
