Sthenolagnia
Sthenolagnia is a paraphilia characterized by sexual arousal or gratification derived from the display, development, or observation of muscular physiques. Individuals who experience sthenolagnia find erotic pleasure in muscles themselves—whether displayed on a partner's body, developed through training and bodybuilding, or observed in various contexts.
In BDSM and kink communities, sthenolagnia manifests as attraction to muscular partners and appreciation for the aesthetics and power conveyed through muscularity. A person experiencing sthenolagnia may be aroused by watching their partner's muscles flex, by the visual display of defined musculature, or by the knowledge that their partner actively develops and maintains their physique. The sexual gratification stems from the aesthetic and symbolic qualities of visible muscle rather than physical strength alone, though the two often intersect.
Origins of the Term
Sthenolagnia comes from Greek words meaning “strength” and “lust” and was coined by early sexologists to describe sexual attraction to physical power and muscularity. It was later adopted by kink and fetish communities as a way to name attraction to strength in a non-clinical, identity-based way.
