Intox Kink
Intox kink, short for "intoxication kink," is a kink involving being drunk, high, drugged, woozy, confused, weak, or otherwise impaired during sex or BDSM.
Forced intoxication is another version of this fantasy where one person appears to make, pressure, trick, or overpower another person into becoming intoxicated.
This kink can be acted on as role play, or played out with real intoxication. In the case of real intoxication, this is a high-risk activity and is considered a form of edgeplay.
Why People Are Into Intoxication Fantasies and Play
People enjoy playing or fantasizing about playing while intoxicated for different reasons. Here are a few:
Loss Of Control
Some people like the idea of being less able to think clearly, resist, or stay fully in control of what happens. They may fantasize about being a limp and mindless play-thing, and fully giving up control for their partner's pleasure.
Helplessness and Vulnerability
Intoxication can make someone feel physically weaker, slower, more dependent, or easier for a partner to overpower. That can overlap with CNC, bondage, kidnapping fantasies, or being “used” by a trusted partner. This effect can be even more powerful in forced intoxication scenes or fantasies.
Feeling Less Inhibited or Ashamed
For some people, intoxication makes it easier to let go of embarrassment, self-consciousness, or the feeling that they should be controlling themselves.
Surrender or Submission
Some people describe intoxication almost like chemical bondage. Instead of being limited by restraints, their intoxication creates the feeling of being less capable or under someone else's control.
Trust and Intimacy
Some people see intox play as a way of giving an unusually trusted partner a higher degree of control. For them, this is a form of intimacy.
Different Mental or Physical Sensations
Intoxication can change perceptions of how things feel, including touch, arousal, and perceptions of pain and intensity. Some people simply enjoy that altered state during sex or BDSM.
Safety and Consent
Intoxication can affect judgment, memory, communication, and the ability to say no or stop a scene. Because of that, intox play is considered high risk.
A person who is extremely confused, barely responsive, unconscious, or unable to understand the situation cannot give meaningful consent. Being intoxicated does not automatically mean a person has no capacity to consent. But as impairment increases, judgment, memory, communication, and awareness can all get worse.
Some people negotiate an intoxication scene while sober and agree in advance on exactly what may happen. But the line around what people are able to consent to and when can get fuzzy here, which increases the risk of non-consensual activity. Plus, many legal systems require consent to exist at the time the sexual activity happens, not only beforehand, creating legal risk as well.
Drugged or forced-intoxication content is restricted on some adult sites for similar reasons. It may not be clear whether an intoxicated person agreed to the scene beforehand. Plus, content that appears to show someone who is too impaired to consent can raise concerns about non-consensual sexual activity and create legal or platform-policy risks.
