Psychrocism
Psychrocism is a rare sexual interest where people feel aroused by cold sensation, either by being cold themselves or by seeing others in the cold. It’s related to temperature play, a type of BDSM sensation play that uses heat or cold to heighten physical awareness.
Origins of the Term
The word psychrocism comes from the Greek root “psychros," which means "cold." Dr. Mark Griffiths, a British psychologist and researcher, may have coined the term on his blog in 2012. But he also cites other researchers who discovered the concept much earlier; Magnus Hirschfeld (1948) and later Brenda Love (1990s) described cases of cold fetishes or arousal from ice or low temperatures, but they did not use the word psychrocism.
