International Kink Day
International Kink Day, observed on October 6, is an unofficial day for celebrating kink and talking more openly about it. It can include BDSM, fetishes, roleplay, power exchange, and other forms of consensual sexual expression that fall outside the mainstream.
The day is also used to promote kink education, reduce stigma, and encourage safer, more open conversations about consent, communication, and different kinds of desire. It is not an official international holiday, and its exact origins are not well documented.
The celebration sometimes extends to the whole month of October (Kinktober.)
There is no single official way to celebrate International Kink Day. Kink communities, educators, and sexual-health organizations may mark the day with workshops, discussion panels, social events, beginner classes, or online posts. For many people, it is less about a large public celebration and more about education, community, and making kink easier to talk about openly.
Origins of International Kink Day
The exact origins of International Kink Day are unclear. Online references to October 6 as National Kink Day can be traced to at least 2017, but there does not appear to be a well-documented founder or organization behind it. The observance seems to have spread mainly through online kink communities, sexual-health sites, and awareness calendars.
