Originating from the Wartenberg wheel which was a medical device, in BDSM this is used as a form of sensory play.

The device can contain one or more wheels with spikes that can be rolled over the skin. Usually they are made out of metal due to the possibility that the device can cause bleeding. They come in a large variety of amount of wheels, colors and shapes and there are also versions that attach to a finger or ones.

Alternative versions of this kind of device can be found in the sewing, cooking or hardware departments of your local stores. Things like pastry edge cutters, leather sewing hole-punches and even wallpaper prick rollers have been used for similar effects - although items not designed as toys may have hygiene risks or safety risks due to not being designed for play.
