Special Interest

A subject that a neurodivergent person takes unique interest in. Often, the individual will learn as much as possible about this subject, and get as much merchandise related to it as they possibly can. Some common special interests are dinosaurs and certain children's cartoons.

Special interest is often shortened to "spin" in text.

Special Interests & Sex

• Special interests can involve or center around sexual topics and kink. When sex or kink dynamics overlap with a special interest, certain rituals or structures can mirror the safe, predictable framework that special interests often provide, helping with emotional grounding and self-regulation. Engagement with sexual topics isn’t always about arousal — for many neurodivergent people, it’s driven by intellectual or social fascination rather than constant sexual interest.
