Emophilia
Emophilia (also called emotional promiscuity) describes a strong tendency to develop romantic feelings quickly and frequently. People who experience emophilia often become intensely attached to a new romantic interest after a short time, feeling a powerful excitement and certainty about the connection.
Emophilia is not simply wanting frequent relationships, but is driven by the rush of falling in love itself. That intense emotional reward can sometimes lead to impulsive decision-making and difficulty seeing red flags early in a relationship. This may increase vulnerability to unhealthy or mismatched partners.
Research suggests that emophilia may correlate with a higher likelihood of being drawn to multiple partners at the same time or taking risks in relationships, but it does not inherently involve sexual promiscuity or infidelity. Emophilia is about emotional intensity, not sexual behavior.
Importantly, emophilia is not a clinical disorder. It’s a personality tendency that can have both positive and challenging aspects. On the one hand, people with emophilia are enthusiastic, passionate and open to connection. But they may also have unstable relationship outcomes.
