Spreader Bar

A bondage device that connects 2 or more limbs to one another in a way that aims to spread the limbs apart and hold them in that position. A common application is a rigid metal or wood bar between the ankles that prevents the person in bondage from closing their legs. This can be done while the person in bondage is laying down or while they are standing up (in which case the risk of falling should be mitigated in some way).

Some spreader bars have permanently attached cuffs or other integrated features to insert the limbs into, but more commonly separate cuffs are placed on the limbs and then those are attached to metal rings, eyebolts, snap hooks, or similar features on the ends of the bar(s). In Japanese bondage there are examples of bamboo being used as a spreader bar with rope being used to connect the limbs to the bamboo in a spread position. There are also instances in Western bondage of ties which mimic the function of a spreader bar but are constructed entirely of rope.
