Apresromantic
Apresromantic is a romantic orientation on the aromantic spectrum. A person who is apresromantic only experiences romantic attraction after another type of attraction develops first.
The initial attraction might be sexual, aesthetic, sensual, emotional, or another form. Romantic attraction appears later, if it appears at all.
The romantic feelings may or may not be reciprocated. They may also exist alongside the original attraction rather than replacing it.
Origins of the Term
Apresromantic is a relatively recent term that emerged from online asexual and aromantic (ace/aro) communities, particularly on platforms like Tumblr and identity-label wikis. These communities often develop micro-labels to describe more specific patterns of attraction within the aromantic spectrum.
The name comes from the French word “après,” meaning “after.”
The term first began appearing in aro-spectrum glossaries and identity discussions in the late 2010s and early 2020s.
