Fluid Bonding
Fluid bonding with a person means that you do not use a barrier with that person for any type of sexual interaction. This can mean a higher risk of STI transmission. Depending on the couple, non-barrier forms of birth control may also be needed.
Fluid bonding usually occurs between two people, but some people will fluid bond with multiple partners. Because the sexual health risk of adding more people is higher, most people opt to simplify fluid bonding by doing it with their most frequent sexual partner only.
How the Term Is Used
The term is often used in ethical non-monogamy, where people may choose to "bond" with a partner. This is often preceded by STI testing and making clear agreements about how to deal with risks moving forward.
Within kink, the term fluid bonding is often taken further, and may include toys that are only used with a certain person due to their exposure to bodily fluids. This might include things like a crotch rope or insertable, as well as any toy that might break the skin, such as in blood play. The fluid bond would include kink activities that might involve any bodily fluids (usually blood, but also potentially sweat, saliva, urine, etc.).
