Origins of the Term
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the earliest known use of "sexercise" appears in 1942. Originally, the term had two meanings: sex as exercise, and exercise meant to improve sexual performance.
By the 1970s, the term sexercise was appearing in magazines and pop culture and was tied to both meanings.
By the 2000s, sexercise had become more of a playful way of referring to sex that feels like a workout.
Google Search data shows that interest in the term spiked in 2014, likely in response to a 2014 song and music video by Kylie Minogue called "Sexercize."
