Metasexuality
Metasexuality is a reflective or exploratory approach to sexuality focused on examining how desire is shaped by culture, psychology, identity, fantasy, gender, power, and social expectations.
Rather than describing a specific sexual orientation, metasexuality refers to thinking about sexuality itself: questioning where desires come from, how erotic meanings are constructed, and how intimacy and attraction are influenced by social norms, relationships, fantasy, and personal experience.
Discussions of metasexuality may involve topics such as:
- BDSM and power exchange.
- Gender and identity.
- Fantasy and roleplay.
- Relationship structures.
- Sexual scripts and expectations.
- Non-traditional forms of intimacy.
- The psychological and symbolic dimensions of desire.
The prefix “meta” refers to reflection or self-examination: sexuality that is observed, questioned, interpreted, or explored beyond immediate sexual behavior itself.
