Vulturing
Vulturing is the act of circling someone who's emotionally vulnerable and waiting for your “opportunity” to swoop in. This might be when a person is fresh out of a breakup or going through some other rough patch. It can also occur in polycules when boundaries get blurry. Vultures don't offer support out of care; they’re looking to benefit.
Origins of the Term
This term comes from the behavior of actual vultures, scavenger birds who circle dying animals and swoop in to feed once they're dead or incapacitated. It was first defined in this context on Urban Dictionary in 2009, and has been used online throughout the 2000s.
The term has been adopted and expanded by poly/kink communities to describe boundary-pushing or opportunistic behavior.
