Gynx

Gynx is a non-binary gender identity that is situated between female and androgyne, meaning it's a gender that is not fully binary but has some connection to femininity. It exists on a spectrum, can lean more towards female or androgyne, or be equidistant between them. Gynx is considered the feminine counterpart to the masculine-leaning androx gender.

Gynx is a neogender, which means it falls between being male and female without being either one.

Origins of the Term

Gynx is one of many community-created neogenders - labels for gender identities that grew out of LGBTQIA+ spaces online, especially Tumblr and MOGAI (Marginalized Orientations, Gender Alignments, and Intersex) glossaries. The word neogender itself was coined in 2019 on Tumblr and became more widely used around 2020. Gynx showed up a little earlier, in Tumblr posts from about 2018, though no single person is credited with creating it.
