Tomboy

A "tomboy" often refers to a young woman or girl who exhibits traits, behaviors, and interests traditionally associated with men or boys, such as engaging in physical activities, wearing comfortable or androgynous clothing, having short "boyish" hairstyles, and/or having a more assertive personality.

While some tomboys may identify as lesbians in later years, there isn't believed to be a strong correlation between being a tomboy and sexual orientation. While one study found that lesbian women were more likely to recall "a childhood characterized by male-stereotypic experiences," it also found a large amount of diversity in the relationship between childhood behaviors and adult sexual orientation.
