Cowgirl

The Cowgirl position is a sex position that allows the penetrating person to lay on their back and the penetrated person to sit on top of their groin facing them with legs kneeling on either side of them. This typically refers to vaginal sex, but can also refer to anal penetration.

How to Enjoy the Cowgirl

In this position, the person on top can control the ride. They can slide along their partner's body for friction, and adjust the angle and depth of penetration however they'd like. The person below can also have some control, but movement is harder with their partner on top. The benefit for them is the visual of their partner above them, as well as having their hands free for other fun.

Origins of the Term

This position resembles riding a horse, and was typically conceived as a "woman-on-top" sex position, which is how it got its name. However, the term can be (and is) used more loosely now, and in a less gendered-way.
