Queer
The term "queer' refers to a person who doesn't identify with traditional categories around gender identity and sexual orientation.
Queer may also be used as an umbrella term to include traditional and non-traditional categories of gender identity and sexual orientation, including but not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and others. This is often how the term is used in academic settings, such as when referring to queer studies.
