Megasexual
A megasexual is someone who experiences sexual attraction as the primary driver of connection. For megasexuals, a strong erotic spark isn’t optional - it’s the foundation. Without it, deeper emotional or romantic bonds may never form. The level of sexual connection it takes for an emotional bond to form is often dependent on the initial attraction to the person. Megasexuals may or may not be non-monogamous. It is an orientation that is not chosen but is often discouraged due to sex-negative attitudes.
Megasexual may be considered the opposite of demisexual. It's used more as a descriptor (“I’m megasexual”), rather than a validated orientation in clinical or scholarly settings.
Origins of the Term
This term was coined by Dr. Liz Powell and The Frisky Fairy in 2015. "Mega" refers to "great," indicating that a megasexual does not feel an emotional connection with someone unless they share great sex! The term has since been used online in blog discussions, polyamory forums, and kink communities as a label for sex-first orientation.
