Demian
Demian (also known as demi², demirose, demi squared, or demi-aroace) describes someone who is both demisexual and demiromantic. A demian person experiences sexual and romantic attraction only after forming a deep emotional bond.
Because it combines both demiromantic and demisexual orientations, demian can be understood as a type of aroace identity.
A common misconception is that demisexual people are “picky” or “frigid.” In reality, demisexuality is a valid orientation, just like heterosexuality or homosexuality. The key difference is that sexual attraction isn’t immediate but arises within the context of an established emotional connection.
Origins of the Term
Demian is a relatively recent label that appears to have been coined on Reddit in 2019 or 2020. The prefix "demi" has been used for longer in other orientation terms like demisexual and demiromantic. Together, these terms under the "demi" umbrella gave rise to identities like demian.
