Vegansexual
Vegansexual describes a vegan who is sexually attracted to, prefers sexual intimacy with, or chooses to have sex only with other vegans. This is usually because they feel less attracted to or less compatible with those who eat animal products. Despite the "-sexual" ending on the word, vegansexual is usually used as more of a values-based sexual preference or boundary than an actual orientation.
The term "veganromantic" is also used, although much less frequently, to refer to people who only want romantic relationships with other vegans.
Origins of the Term
Vegansexual emerged from a 2006–2007 New Zealand study on cruelty-free consumption led by Annie Potts and Mandy White. Some vegan and vegetarian respondents said they preferred sexual intimacy or primary relationships only with other non-meat-eaters, often because animal consumption affected their sense of attraction and long-term compatibility. Potts initially described this as “vegan sexuality,” but media coverage in 2007 popularized the joined term "vegansexuality."
