Bi-Situational
Bi-situational describes someone who may have sexual or romantic experiences with more than one gender in certain situations, even if that isn’t how they usually identify or who they normally seek out.
It focuses on behavior and context, not on a person’s core orientation. For example, someone might mostly date or desire one gender, but be open to or enjoy same-gender or other-gender experiences in specific spaces. This could include at kink events, parties, or play spaces, or just when the chemistry or mood feels right.
Because it’s about what someone does in certain settings, bi-situationality is different from:
- Bisexuality (ongoing attraction to more than one gender)
- Heterosexuality or homosexuality (ongoing attraction to one gender)
Some bi-situational people may later identify as bisexual, heteroflexible, or something else. Others see their situational experiences as separate from their everyday orientation.
