Ecosexual
Ecosexual usually describes people who feel a sexual or sensual connection to nature. This can include attraction to natural elements like trees, water, earth, weather, or landscapes.
For some people, ecosexuality is about touch, pleasure, and sensory experiences in nature. For others, it’s more about emotional connection, respect, or seeing the Earth as a partner rather than just a place.
Ecosexuality typically isn't about sex so much as big, erotic feelings and cherishing the earth as you would a lover. That said, some people do engage in sexual acts outdoors or with the natural environment as well.
Origins of the Term
The ecosexual movement is believed to have been founded around 2016 by Elizabeth Stephens and Annie Sprinkle, who were looking to make environmentalism more fun and sexy. The couple married the earth, sky, sun, sea, moon, and Appalachian mountains in various ceremonies around the world.
They see the movement as a creative strategy for environmental activism, one that helps people more fully feel the stakes when it comes to environmental protection.
