Pony Play

Pony play, also known as equestrian play, is an attraction to being treated as a pony or horse, or to using a person in that role. It often incorporates equestrian or pony-play attire and tack. Typically in pony play, one partner takes the role of the pony (submissive) and the other of the rider, trainer, groomer, or owner (dominant.) Common equipment may include riding crops, switches, bridles, reins, lunge lines, saddles, hoof boots, insertable or attachable tails, and artificial pony ears.

Participants (“ponies”) may be displayed, trained in dressage, harnessed to a cart, ridden upright, or ridden on all fours.

There are a few different types of ponies in pony play. These are typically:

  • Cart Ponies: Pull sulkies/carts, harnessed with bridles and blinkers.
  • Riding Ponies: Ridden on all fours or upright; sometimes riders sit on shoulders.
  • Show Ponies: Perform dressage-like routines, highly decorated.

Why People Are Into It

People are into pony play for a number of different reasons. These include:

Transformation

Becoming a pony is a form of transformation, one that often lets people leave the stress and concerns of their daily lives behind.

Control and Submission

Power exchange is often core to this kink. The pony is often ridden, trained, and rewarded for obedience.

Sensory Appeal

A lot of pony players are into the equipment and restraints that come with being a horse. Bridles, bits, hoof boots, harnesses, and tails provide tactile sensations and physical restriction.

Aesthetics

Elaborate tack, plumes, and costumes create beauty and pageantry that some people are into. Equipment is typically a huge part of this fetish!
