Abstinent
Abstinent describes someone who refrains from sexual intercourse or certain sexual activities, either temporarily or indefinitely. Abstinence is often a personal choice, but it can also result from circumstances beyond someone's control.
People may practice abstinence for religious, personal, or health reasons. Others may be taking a break from sex, recovering from negative experiences, or waiting for a partner they trust and feel comfortable with.
An abstinent person may still experience sexual desire, have romantic relationships, masturbate, use sex toys, or enjoy other forms of intimacy. What they choose to avoid depends on their personal boundaries.
Within kink and BDSM, abstinence can be part of chastity, orgasm denial, or power exchange. Partners may agree to avoid certain sexual activities to build anticipation or give one partner control over their pleasure.
Abstinence is similar to celibacy, but usually refers to avoiding specific sexual activities rather than making a broader commitment to avoid sex altogether.
