Anchor Partner
An anchor partner typically refers to someone who is a central, stabilizing presence in another person's life — a long-term emotional and relational “anchor.” Anchor partners are people you have a strong, lasting bond with. They may share life plans or responsibilities, and remain a steady presence in your life without being called a “primary.”
This term is most often used in polyamory or polyamorous relationships. It can be used to describe a relationship's importance without hierarchical labels.
In many relationships, an anchor partner is also the person who provides emotional safety, grounding, and a sense of “coming home.” When someone emphasizes that emotional refuge, they may describe this same person as a harbor partner.
