Metamour

A metamour is your partner’s other partner - someone you’re connected to through a shared relationship, but not romantically or sexually involved with yourself. This may be used in any non-monogamous context, but is most often used in polyamory.

Metamours are not rivals, but rather part of the same interpersonal network. The relationship between metamours can range from close friendship to minimal or no contact, depending on the dynamic and comfort levels. Some polyamorous structures encourage kitchen table polyamory (everyone interacts), while others follow parallel polyamory (separate but respectful relationships). Metamour relationships often involve mutual respect, boundaries, and communication, but no romantic obligation.
