Coterie
A coterie is a small, close-knit, often exclusive group of people brought together by a shared interest, theme, or purpose. In kink and roleplay communities, the term is often used for a bonded group of players. It is most common in vampire, gothic, or fantasy-themed scenes, where the group sees themselves as a tight inner circle.
Unlike a pack, which is usually based on instinct or broad group identity, a coterie is formed around a specific focus, aesthetic, or goal.
Origins of the Term
Coterie comes from French and originally meant a small group of people who share a close space or purpose. It was later popularized in vampire fiction (especially "Vampire: The Masquerade") and adopted by kink and roleplay communities to describe tight-knit, often closed groups with a shared theme or identity.
