Celibate
Celibate describes an individual who abstains from sexual activity, typically by choice, for personal, spiritual, religious, philosophical, or lifestyle reasons.
Celibacy may be a temporary or lifelong commitment and can be practiced by individuals regardless of their relationship status, romantic interests, or level of sexual attraction.
People may choose celibacy to focus on personal growth, establish sexual boundaries, recover from negative experiences, or wait for a partner with whom they feel safe, respected, and emotionally connected. Others may describe themselves as celibate because they are not currently sexually active, even if this is not entirely by choice.
A celibate person may still desire romantic relationships, emotional intimacy, affection, companionship, and meaningful connections while choosing not to participate in sexual activity.
Celibacy does not necessarily indicate a lack of sexual desire or attraction. Celibate individuals may continue to experience sexual arousal, masturbate, use sex toys, enjoy erotic content, or participate in certain forms of kink and BDSM. What constitutes celibacy can vary depending on the individual's personal boundaries and definition of sexual activity.
Within BDSM, celibacy may also be incorporated into consensual chastity or power-exchange dynamics, where restrictions on sexual activity form part of an agreed-upon relationship structure.
