Comet Partner

In polyamorous or non-monogamous relationships, a comet partner is a romantic and/or sexual partner who is seen infrequently, but with whom a deep and meaningful connection is typically maintained.

In the same way that a comet passes Earth only occasionally, these partners see each other in person irregularly (for any number of reasons), but the connection is special. The level of contact between seeing each other in person varies from relationship to relationship.
