Whipping Post
In BDSM, a whipping post most commonly refers to the object or position used for impact play. Traditionally, it is the post to which a bottom is bound and presented for whipping, flogging, caning, or other impact.
The term can also describe the posture a submissive takes when being whipped. This is usually upright and restrained, with the back exposed and offered as a surface for impact.
More rarely, whipping post is used as a self-descriptor or scene role. In this case, it refers to a bottom who endures impact passively and without resisting. In this sense, the person is objectified as a body meant to be struck. This type of whipping post is likely to:
- Have a High Pain Tolerance: Whipping posts often have a naturally high pain tolerance. They are able to withstand and even enjoy the sting of a whip, finding it exhilarating rather than agonizing.
- Focus on Sensation: They are highly attuned to physical sensations, particularly the feeling of impact on their skin. They may derive pleasure from anticipation, the sting itself, and/or the lingering after-effects.
- Embrace Vulnerability: The act of offering their body to be whipped as an act of vulnerability and surrender.
