Kinktionary

More like guidelines and a lot less like definitions.

Guru

In a BDSM context, Guru typically refers to someone who takes on a spiritually authoritative or mentor-like Dominant role, like a guide, teacher, or ritualkeeper. Gurus are often Dominants with a flair for coaching-style leadership and ceremonial play. They teach things like rituals (bondage, meditation, impact), and aim to heighten arousal and introspection. Beyond dominance, they may provide mentorship and emotional/psychological control. In exchange, they may receive a sense of worship or devotion from their submissives.

Gurus often work with:

  • Submissives who relish ritual, mental stimulation, and guided introspection.
  • Couples eager to weave spirituality and kink together.

Consent & Safety

The “guru” role can be consensual and symbolic, but it can also mirror coercive or exploitative behavior, especially if consent, boundaries, and autonomy are not respected. When this dynamic remains within the dynamic of role play, the Guru safeguards psychological boundaries, and there is no pseudo-religious coercion outside the scene. Everything is role-play, and genuine religious claims or cult-like influence are avoided. Power ends when the scene does, and aftercare should be used to keep everyone grounded.
