Owner
An Owner is a dominant BDSM role centered on consensual ownership or possession of another person. The owned person might identify as property, a slave, a submissive, a pet, or another role.
What “ownership” means varies between relationships and can involve authority, service, rules, training, care, objectification, or simply a strong sense of belonging to one another.
There is a lot of overlap between an Owner and a Master, and there is no universally agreed line between the two. Some people see Master/slave dynamics as more focused on service and obedience, while Owner/property puts more emphasis on possession, belonging, or being claimed. Others use the titles almost interchangeably. In the real world, it's the people involved in the dynamic who determine what it means for them.
Being an Owner does not necessarily mean participating in pet play, treating someone as less than human, or having total authority over them. An ownership dynamic can be playful and affectionate, strict and highly structured, protective and nurturing, or some combination of these. It might last for a scene or become part of a serious 24/7 relationship.

- Nurturing: Ownership can be surprisingly affectionate. Some Owners enjoy praising, comforting, feeding, caring for, or doting on the person they own.
- Training and guidance: Teaching behaviors, establishing routines, rewarding progress, or helping a partner explore their submission.
- Creating a safe space to let go: Some Owners enjoy providing enough structure and security that their partner can relax into a submissive or altered headspace.
- Playfulness: Ownership does not have to be solemn or severe. It can include teasing, pet play, games, affection, silliness, and everyday rituals that reinforce the feeling of being Owner and owned.
- Objectification or dehumanization: For people who enjoy these kinks, ownership may involve treating the owned person as property, an object, an animal, or something less than fully human.
