Coyote
In BDSM, a coyote is usually someone who is submissive and masochistic, although it's not always apparent at first. Unlike a dog or a pup, they aren't easily domesticated, and they tend to be skittish and dodgy until they feel safe.
Some people also draw on the image of Coyote as a trickster, but because the Coyote has varied cultural significance, those meanings are not necessarily universal.
Similar to the Wolf, they are very loyal, but often display similar puppy-like tendencies, such as excitability, enthusiasm, and affection. They may have more feral inclinations such as nipping or biting, and can be quite mischievous in nature, especially with their "pack". As such, they can be seen as playful or bratty, thriving on power play, hierarchy, and correction, needing to be "reminded of their place" (being chased and "forced" to submit).
Coyotes are viewed as a lesser species in society, hierarchically low and often bullied or pushed around by all others. This plays into their enjoyment of humiliation and degradation.
A coyote can be trained into obedience and service, although they often require reminders and retraining as their mischievous tendencies bleed through regularly. They can be primal, mostly seen as prey, but occasionally playing the role of predator for smaller prey.
Coyotes might switch or Top, but generally still follow hierarchy and tend to submit to those more dominant if present or participating. But that doesn't mean submission always comes easy. They are a resilient type and some enjoy a good fight for dominance.
