In BDSM dynamics, a Brat Enabler is a dominant partner who embraces and encourages their submissive's bratty behavior. Rather than trying to control or tame the brat, the Brat Enabler enjoys the playful defiance their brat shows.
Brat Enabler vs. Brat Tamer
A Brat Enabler is the opposite of a Brat Tamer in one key respect. While a Brat Tamer responds to bratty behavior with discipline to reinforce the power dynamic, a Brat Enabler encourages the brat's playful defiance instead. The relationship is often more collaborative and teasing, and the dominant style is more supportive than confrontational.
Origins of the Term
Unlike Brat Tamer, which has been part of BDSM vocabulary for many years, Brat Enabler appears to be a much newer, community-driven term. Rather than emerging from BDSM education or literature, it gained popularity through memes, social media, and romance fandoms. The term first started appearing on FetLife in 2017.
The term is most commonly seen alongside Brat Creator (or Brat Maker) and Brat Tamer. In the popular meme, the Brat Creator "made" the brat by spoiling or encouraging their mischievous behavior, the Brat Enabler continues to reward and encourage that behavior, and the Brat Tamer is left to deal with the consequences by reasserting control. The joke is often summed up as: "You created the brat, you enabled the brat, now you have to tame the brat."
While the meme has become especially popular in romance communities and fandoms, the idea also resonates with many real-life brat dynamics. Not every Dominant wants to tame a brat immediately (or at all). Some genuinely enjoy encouraging the teasing, banter, and playful escalation.
